Joining a gym or health club requires signing a contract, and not all contracts are the same. To avoid problems later, itís a good idea to understand all parts of a contract before you sign.

High pressure sales tactics, misrepresentations about the facilities and services, broken cancellations policies and lost fees when places go out of business are common issues that consumers face.

Health clubs must be licensed with DCP.  A health club is a business that offers physical fitness or well-being, and signs you up for more than 30 days at a time. This includes golf and tennis clubs, health spas, fitness centers, self-defense clubs, squash clubs, racquetball clubs and platform tennis clubs.

A list of all contract prices and equipment must be posted where you sign the contract. This information must also be included in the contract.
