Your credit history is important. It tells businesses how you pay your bills. Those businesses then decide if they want to give you a credit card, a job, an apartment, a loan, or insurance. Find out what is in your credit report. Be sure the information is correct. Fix anything that is not correct.

How do I get my credit report?

This is easy to do by phone or online. If you order your credit report by phone:

  • Call Annual Credit Report at 1-877-322-8228

  • Answer questions from a recorded system or online. You have to give your address, Social Security number, and birth date.

  • Choose to show only the last four numbers of your Social Security number. It is safer than showing your full Social Security number on your report.

  • You will have to answer other questions that only you know. If you cannot answer the questions or answer them wrong, you will have to mail a request to the company. The company will give you a form you can print out and mail in with other proof of who you are.

  • Choose which credit reporting company you want a report from. (You get one free report from each company every year.)

The company will mail your report to you. Your report should arrive 2-3 weeks after you call.

If you want to order your credit report online:

  • Go to www.AnnualCreditReport.com

  • Answer the questions online.

The company will either show you the report online or mail it to you. If you want it mailed, your report should arrive 2-3 weeks after you submit your request.
